/Virginia News Articles/ - (CHANTILLY, VA) - August 14, 2008 - Tarara Winery to Host 20-Year Vertical Library Tasting at Virginia Wine Showcase Event to be Held at Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Virginia August 22-24, 2008

Tarara Winery, one of Virginia's early pioneers in the wine industry, will host an exclusive Vertical Library Tasting at the Virginia Wine Showcase on August 23 and 24. This rare tasting of Tarara's signature wine, Meritage, a Bordeaux style blend, will be featured on both Saturday and Sunday.

Tarara Winery, a scenic 475 acre property situated on the bluffs of the Potomac River, celebrates the 20th anniversary of its first vintage this year. The Library Tasting will allow guests to taste a selection of the winery's portfolio of wines representing a span of their 20 year history of winemaking. Jordan Harris, Tarara's winemaker, will lead an informative session on how the fruit of one vineyard differs from year to year and discuss the difference between aged wines versus young wines in this exclusive educational session.

In a matter of decades, the Virginia wine industry has grown from oddity - there were six wineries in 1980, to an industry, with over 140 wineries and 260 vineyards now dotting the Commonwealth landscape. This library tasting is a rare opportunity to taste the history of Tarara wines.

In addition to this exclusive event, vintners from 35 Virginia wineries will participate in the Virginia Wine Showcase, Virginia's first indoor festival, pouring samples of dozens of different varieties of wines, ranging from dry and semi-dry table wines to sparkling fruit and dessert wines. Festival guests will have an opportunity to taste wines and meet and talk to local winemakers.

The event also features:

Musical entertainment Friday evening by the region's best a capella band, Cartoon Johnny
A full slate of wine pairing and tasting seminars all day Saturday and Sunday
Virginia's Finest fancy foods, fabulous fine arts & crafts, specialty coffees, kitchen accessories, food and wine publications and gift baskets for sampling and sale

The Virginia Wine Showcase is hosted by the Farm Wineries Council of Virginia and benefits several non-profit organizations including the Washington Wine Academy, and Volunteer Fairfax. Tickets and details are available on the festival web site at www.virginiawineshowcase.org.
